Hey guys, I have a 97 Z that was an automatic, until the tranny blew out. Than I decided to go to the manual tranny.WELL, I have a friend of mine that has a 95 z28, that is a 6 speed. He says that the auto tranny makes for a faster car. I dont see that being true on the street but maybe on the track. But I would like to hear what ya'll think!!!!!

The tranny doesn't make the car any faster. An automatic is more consistant at the track. But a good driver can do just as well.

That's kind-of a yeah and no answer. Manuals def feel faster when your ripping through the gears. Known fact though, if two cars are equal in power: From a roll, the manual will win hands down. From a dead stop a auto will lose to a well driven manual. Auto is def more consistant at the track though.

Well my auto wasnt consistant worth a crap. Every tranny I put in slips. EVERY TIME. But I heard different stories but I thought the manual was faster like yall said.

I love driving a stick, but seeing as how I live in the hills, and have gotten lazy in my old age, I'm gonna stick (no pun intended) with an auto...gear vendors does some wicked stuff with over/under drive gearing, and a company called twist machine makes an awesome paddle shifterthat mounts directly behind the steering wheel. I'm definitely jonesing for that stuff...first things first tho!
