View Full Version : HOLD THE DATE: October 6th - Amicalola Falls Trip

Hey guy's/gal's... I did a "drive" this weekend that some might like. Went to Amicalola Falls State Park near Dawson (via I575,515 to Rt 136). It was about a 60 mile trip from Woodstock. Nice roads, great scenery, lots of "S" turns, etc. Also a lodge/resturant at the park... all you can eat "prime rib" buffet (on saturday's) for $15. Heard that several car clubs go up there... good parking area also.

When we went up to Blue Ridge on vacation we took US19 back through Neels Gap. I kept thinking "Man I wish I could take the Camaro on these twisties..." I snapped a pic to remind me to return. ;)

How about October 6th or the 27th meet up at 10:00 am and leave from there at 10:30 and drive to the falls.. We could use the 27th as a rain date!!

That sounds pretty good. I plan on a couple dry runs for a cruise.

If you're planning a trip to the Falls and wanted to eat at the resturant I'm not sure when they are open for business. I do know that the prime rib buffet is from 5-10PM on Saturday's and they will take reservations for a group. Contact person is Mark Hardman 706-344-1522. If the resturant is not open earlier there is a picnic area but is is rather small.

That sounds like a great op to shoot a video. If someone could go ahead of the pack and film the club coming out of some good curves would be killer IMO. Either that or put a vert 1st in line as a film car.

i love it up at Amicalola falls i have been there one time. and its not far from me at all. i live in Pickens county so its right next door!

I believe I may be able to make that one. I'll trailor over and meet yall somewhere. Where could I unload at and store the truck for a day, is there anyone's house anywhere around? That sounds like the event to try and get everyone together from all over for a season end cruise, with the time advance given there should be a good turn out. I'll start getting everything ready.

Kenny, are you gonna stay over night somewhere?? If you're gonna do that, and you don't mind trailering past where the cruise is gonna be...you can come on to my house, up here in Deliverance country. I'm about an hour and a half from Ellijay, still haven't checked the map to see where the cruise goes to.

Haven't put much thought in it yet, just realized it was in october instead of sept this mornin. I'll have to get a better idea of time frames and distances, etc. It wouldn't be a problem to go to your place tho, how far past is it?

If the meeting place is in Canton, I may be driving past, and then doubling back...it would be well worth it tho if we have 15 Camaros cruisin along...

you could store it at my house, its only about a 30 minute ride from me to the falls. i am in Pickens county which is one county over from the falls.

That would work for me, I'd like to be as close as possible to the meeting spot. If all goes well I'll meet you Jeff at your place, then we'll convoy to Heathers to unload. Thanks heather for the offer, by the way. You'll have to wait til after then to sell the 2nd gen! Is there any motels in your town, I may stay over til sunday before heading back.
Anyone know if there's any fuel stations along the cruise route? If not I'll bring 2 jugs of fuel to be safe, I only have a 10 gallon cell in the car.

i think there is plenty of gas stations along where yall will be coming from. if yall need directions let me know cause i know everything about all of north georgia.

oh ok there is a few thru there but once you get to Jasper it don't take but maybe 20 or 30 minutes to get up there

I've been in contact with Trainman and have put together a draft of a flyer/map with two different routes that I have taken to the Falls. My initial thought was to pick a senic mountain drive. My proposed meeting spot was the Riverstone Pkwy, Canton Po-Boys cruise location or somewhere furture north on I575/GA515 up towards Talking Rock where we could pick up GA136 and head toward the Falls. Trainman has also driven to the Falls recently so I'm sending him what I have so we can put together a proposed plan/route etc and then share with all.

I've been think along the same lines. One on the potential routes goes through Talking Rock where you would pick up GA 136 which is the best part of the drive that I did a couple of weeks ago.

A second quick stop in/near Talking Rock might be a good idea to pick up the local and northern contingents that are joining in. Or you could have them join the pack going through there if you communicate your arrival via cell phone...? My other club did that driving through Macon on I-75 headed to G10. A few St. Mary's members joined us from the on ramp and filed right in.

I have all the intentions of making it. With the work I do, its sometimes hard to plan stuff to far in advance Kenny, but, at this point , I plan on it. we're getting ready to add 100' more feet to my luffing jib, and by the cruise time , it will probably be in a critical portion of the job and the use of my crane will be crux of the job for reach , weight capabilities etc. Just have to play it by ear till its gets a little closer to time for it.

Amicalola Falls is exactly 20 miles from my house, i just figured it up. so Jasper or Talking rock will be a good place to stop and get gas. not many places between here and the falls.

One way distance from planned "meet-up" in Canton is 45 miles.
Alternate: option to pick up cruise as we go through Talking Rock GA... distance from there to Falls is 23 miles (one way)

Cruise is to Amicalola Falls Sate Park near Dawsonville GA (North GA). Will be starting from Canton GA going thru Talking Rock GA. Specific details should be posted soon..........
