Shifter Cable Adjustment

The shifter cable wants to bow between the trans. bracket and the cable mounting bracket. The cable is secure to floor pan and not loose. The part of the cable that is bowing is the area that the boot covers. It will shift from park to 2nd fine. Its when shifting back up, the cable, wants to bow going into reverse and park. Any ideas? Thanks for the help,

Make sure the retaining clip on the end of the cable is still in place in the shifter bracket. It sounds as if it is pushing forward out of the shifter.
