anyone know if its illegal in GA to have your lights blacked out? im thinking of doing the back tails. ive heard as long as you can see the light within 300ft but not sure if it was up to current GA laws.

I hope this helps. I could not find anything specific to tail light covers. The section on taillights is 40-8-23.

so waht's your take on the dark black tail light covers, I thought they were illegal to use on roads but ok for shows and off the road use. I couldn't find an exact citation on tail light covers.

the law just states that the brake light must be visible within 300ft. ive been driving with the covers on for about a month now and no problems. i will post up the pic tomorrow when i have my other cpu

300 feet huh. So here's a test scenario for ya. Park on football field's end zone with bumper kissing the goal line. Turn on parking lights. Wait until dark. Go to other end zone. Take photo with available light. Post it up. Done. Keep printed copy of (dated and time stamped) photo when you are stopped by county deputy. If it works, give me credit, if not there's Greg.

the covers actually dont effect the lighting at all so ther was no reason for me to take the extra effort. if i get into a situation with them i will let yall know

there are state laws that require the tailights to be red in color and must be visible from 150 feet. cain't remember the code section but will check tomorrow. also the countys in ga can all have there own restrictions.what is legal in glynn my get you a ticket in wayne. each county can set there own standards as long as there at least the same as the state requirment. also on
a related topic a new law went in effect in ga on jan 1 2010 reguarding speeding. not only will you get a ticket from the county that the violation occured you will also get a ticket from the state. if i remember right it is under 75 mph it will be $150 over 75 mph will be $250 and that is the speed you are doing. 45 in a 35 will get you another $150 ticket from the state

well after 6 months of driving with the headlight and tailight covers i finally got pulled over. its was on buford hwy when i was headed to the norcross show. cop was goin opposite direction and pulled a U-ey. he stated they were illegal but i got off with a warning because i moved them on the spot. i figured he only noticed cuz i was the only one on the road and he must of had nuthin else to do than to bother me. o well, im gonna KEEP the back ones ON cuz ive had dozens of cops pass me, in front of me, and behind me and never have had a problem. plus the doghnut eater said he could write me two tickets..one for the front and one for the back and said that in a accident i would be 50% at fault. idk y, you can clearly see the lights light up day or night. just more BS regulations just like window tint and emissions. as far as the laws it states specifically that the front lights should not have any covers but the back it just states that they shuld meet manufacturers specifications, in which case they still do. whatever this guy just ****ed me off cuz he clearly has nuthin else to do and rather than stopping crime hes out here sittin in a car shootin his radar gun and writing bs tickets.
