MSD dist cap button wear?

I just thought I'd ask this question over here and maybe save someone some aggravation before they bought an MSD distributor. Before this post I have never heard anything bad about MSD.
I bought a brand new MSD distributor, 6al box and external coil. All of this has exactly 1,160 miles on it. The carbon button in the top of the dist cap is burnt up! The engine ran great with no problems.

What would cause the button to burn out this fast?

generally indicates a bad plug wire or plug. It mat still be firing... but resistance is prolly low...

I'm mainly talking about the carbon button being COMPLETELY GONE. After only 1k miles. And from what I have read on other sites I'm not the only one who has had this happen.

low resistance is good high is bad.
