OK, need some more help...
Other than the low idle that I need adjusting, the other issue is the shifting. The 700r4 transmission was rebuilt less than 12k miles ago and I never had this problem until the other day.
When I'm getting on the highway, with the shifter in OD, it seems to fail to shift from 3rd to 4th for a few seconds and then finally does so with a jerk. If I down shift from OD at that speed and then shift back up to OD, it doesn't happen. However, while this happens, I lose power (not electrical power) but "power", power.
The ATF is level and fine, tranny is rebuilt, I did have the transmission mount replaced and new cat's put on. All lines/hoses are also connected and tight underneath the hood/chasis.
Any ideas or suggestions?

I've always been told when you have shifting problems check the fluid to make sure it does not smell burnt and to check the modulator valve. I dont know if yours has one but if it does make sure the vacuum to it is good and of course maybe swap it out. Then again, it has been sitting for a little while at paint, if it is computer controlled maybe it needs to be reset.

It sounds to me like the tranny might need to be pulled again.:( Thats just my opinion, cause it happened to me! I could be wrong and I hope I am!

Ok...so the other day when I checked the ATF I must've been blind, of course this is after I spent 4 hours in Arkansas changing the catalytic convertors...a **** of a day.
Well, I just got done checking it again and it was reddish-brown and the wife said it smelled burnt. :o
I guess I'm due for a transmission flush now...hopefully this weekend. But can this be a probable cause for the shifting issue? It was still clear but defintely reddish-brown and burnt.

FWIW, I had an issue with delay from park to reverse. A trans service for $80 cleared everything up.

I will start by saying I am no mechanic. I had another 1992 Z with about 40K miles on it. When you got to 50-60 mph it would vibrate and sort of stall shifting into overdrive. Took it to a transmission shop. Guy slid under the car, unplugged and then plugged something up, to reset the computer if I remember right (this was about 15 yrs ago). Dont know if it is even close to what is going on with yours though, but you never know.

It might be the filter is stopped up, but I know when I pulled the motor and tranny out of mine I lost all the tranny fluid and had to put new in it. Now it doesnt shift good til it warms up!

Most reputable transmission shops will be your best bet for service on your automatic. I asked a friend of mine here (who owns a high performance parts store) where the best place in town was. She recommended a shop and they took care of me. Maybe that angle could work for you too. :)

This is almost exactly what it's doing except not stalling. However, I can downshift and shift back up with little problem once that occurs.
Hopefully that's all it is...could new catalytic converters mess up the computer? Would there be any negative consequences putting it on a lift and disconnecting/reconnecting crap around the transmission?
