Well, I dove in and flushed out the radiator. After driving to Tara Blvd over the weekend and it hitting 220 again I thought it was time. Each time it would cool down but this time it did'nt drop down much. On the way home it was a little cooler out so the car ran a little cooler.

I ran all the fluid out and it did'nt look bad. I put in the flush removed the thermostat housing and SURPRISE.......................no thermostat. This was troubling but kind of answered my question why it took so long to warm up. I installed a new 180 t-stat and ran the car. What came out was the look of dark chocolate syrup. And then it turned to a yohoo color. I flushed out about 15 gallons of that stuff letting the car run with the hose trickling into the radiator. What finally came out was somewhat clear. It was not real thick just a lot of it.

The car ran for about 30 min total and did not break the 160 mark. I think it is the 160 mark, the dash between 100 and 220. I drove it up the road hard with the heater off and the needle did'nt move off that same mark. The heater is nice and hot now. But I never tested it before.

So, in conclusion do you guys think I should have it professionally done? What is the downfall of not having a thermostat? It hasent leaked so I guess it was holding all that rusty water. The puke tank was another story, it was so full of muck at the bottom I had to remove it and flush it out with a nozzle a few times to get it all out. It is stained pretty bad though. I will get a new one when it is time to detail under the hood. When I popped off the cap and looked in the tank the fluid was green. I guess the flush stuff worked. I got a new radiator cap, 180 t-stat and new coolant, so hopefully it will be fine for the trip up to Canton. I found the rubbing noise. It was the rear exhaust hangers. They are in nasty shape. I put some grease on them and now they are quite.

SURPRISE.......................no thermostat.

Dang, that is a surprise.

Might could run it by a "reputable" radiator shop and have them inspect the system. Best case scenario they tell you "good Job". :) How old are your cooling hoses??

No thermastat can cause overheating due to the coolant running through the system too fast. It will gradually pick up temp as it moves through the motor. Whith out having the ablility to sit in the radiator to cool down for a min it will just keep heating up. I say you the car owner should be the only professinal your car needs.

The hoses feel fine. They have been replaced at some point. I found where someone installed one of those "t"' fittings where you hook a hose up too. I think they flushed it out and installed new hoses but since the car sat the muck must have built up. Seeing that the rain is moving in I wont get a chance to drive it untill Friday to really test it out. I'll drive it to my game Friday night.

Wow the same thing is happening to me right now with my Jeep. It keeps getting hot, but it goes up and up and up! When I went to change the therm. it didnt have one eigther, but it still overheated. So then I put a water pump on it and it still does it, so Im going to flush out the block and the radiator and see how that does.

I told you Damon that I thought it maybe the thermostat. Also flushing out the radiator will help alot. What kind of flush did you use and,I hope you put in fresh coolant.shiftin If you don't want to drive too far, come by the cruise in Fayetteville and see us Saturday.
