I bought another 2nd gen. It's a '81 Berlinetta Special Edition w/ TTops. Car is #'s matching, still has the factory exhaust w/cats, AC, all pwr acc's, and still has the 14" wheels w/wire spoke hubcaps w/ Berlinetta written in the center. The chrome strip running down the bottom of it has " Special Edition " written in satin silver. I will be picking it up wednesday afternoon.

It has the high back seats with the stripes on them and on the door panels, t-tops and a power antennea. What is it about these 78-81's that loose that lower grille? I see a bunch like that all the time.

Thanks everyone! My plans on it are to keep it like it was when she was born. I plan on keeping the 14" wheels and hub caps, repainting it with the original white paint, pretty much anything I can do to it without changing what's factory.
I plan on driving it over to G12. Just like last year, I'll be thrashing on it every day til it's time to drive over to the show:D 3 things that's top on the list are headliner & tires ( next week ), and paint in 2-3 weeks.
The car was in Arizona til 4mo ago, built at the Van Nuys plant in Cali.

You could actually go back further than 78. We just call them buck toothed.

I don't know about the other years, but the 74-77 is getting hard to find in decent shape.

I know. I had scored me a used one in perfect shape (no cracks or chips). I didn't use it though. I got real lucky and found a new original GM in the box some guy had on ebay and bought it for $35.00 with shipping.

I finally got a few minutes to work on the '81 yesterday. Most all elect. systems work like reverse lts, intermitten wipers, interior lts, warning buzzer, etc.

I put a pair of Monroe Sensatrac shocks on the front saturday and lubed all the rod ends, ball joints, etc. While under it I seen that I'm gonna need to replace the upper and lower control arm bushings. I put about 40mi on it yesterday and it run great:D

Check out these hand drawn pinstriping that is on my '81. You don't see much freehand striping anymore at all. Figured I'd pic it before I sand it all off

There is an 18 year old here locally that does freehand pinstriping. He is pretty good too. Been doing it for a couple of years now. He looks like a cross between Don King and the scientist from "Back to the Future".

Thats pretty cool that you found the stripper all the way in AZ. I found out that the RS I have was only owned by one lady before me. She lived in Helen and bought the car brand new from a dealership up there!
