that is determined by which trans came in the car. The auto trans rear has a thicker gear if I remember correctly. Hopefully you have the original rearend.

That 7.5 isn't too strong, you need at least an 8.5 for serious dragstrip use

The 2 series was used for gears up to 2.73, the 3 series was used for gears higher than that (3.08, 3.42, 3.73, etc.) So what you have will depend on what the stock gears were and if no one changed it.

i dont think it got changed, i thought there might be a way without removing the cover, but i think i might just have to wait till i get back home.

Either way if you are going to change the gears to higher than 3.08 (and why wouldn't you) you will need the 3 series carrier.

Now I'm no expert but Zach's 98 had stock 2.73 gears and put 3.73 gears in and DID not change the carrier. The boy who did the rearend builds 4x4's. Big ones!!! It also heped the stall not that any of that matters rite now:(:(:(:(

I think by looking here http://www.speedwaymotors.com/p/3772,,_GM-10-Bolt-75andquot;.html
You have to use a spacer for their gears in a 2 carrier. But to answer his question, How you can tell without a ring and pinion in it I dont know.

thanks for the help, i think i will order the 373 for the 3 series, if it doesent work i will just get the other one, and thanks for the website, i think i will get my gears from there.

You may want to consider a stronger rear end.The 7.5 10 bolt rearends are very weak. If you ever want to put sticky tires on it and race it. Plus with all that carberation you need at least a 3.73 or lower gear.shiftin
