As I get older I really hate the idea of crawling under the car..Still have to do it.
My question is ... Do you feel safer with Stands or Car ramps.
If so why...and what types of ramps or stands do you trust the most...
I use stands right now but have thought about car ramps.
Thanks.

We have a 18 year old set of steel car ramps like these, but yellow and in excellent condition. If I were to buy newer ones, I'd get the "Heavy Duty" version shown here:
Peterson Ramps (http://www.autoramps.com/ultra_ramps.htm)
They have a list of national retailers at thier site to check with. I just don't trust the composite ones.
Although a lift would be even better... :D

A lot of times you dont have a choice. I prefer ramps. I use the hard plastic type. They have been great. The way I see it is, if the job requires me to be under the car for a great length of time then it is best left to a pro with a lift.

I've mostly have used jack stands. just hated to have to jack up a vehicle to use them. The advantage to the stands though is more room to move around under the vehicle.

I prefer stands to ramps, and have both...but the ramps I have are old and rickity...so I had to improvise werk on the tranny...

I have metal and plastic ramps. The bird is too low in front for metal so I use the plastic. I still use good jack stands when they will fit under the car. Never just use a jack as most all of you know.

Never have and never will use ramps. Properly placed stands are much more stable. Most accidents that happen involve the car "rolling" off of something. It takes a little more time and effort but I'm worth it. If the wheels are in the air they can't "roll" off of anything.
In my work, I frequently jackstand equipment that weighs in excess of 20,000 lbs, so a car is peanuts.
In the picture below my car is on these 3-ton jackstands (http://www.harborfreight.com/cpi/ctaf/displayitem.taf?Itemnumber=38846)that I caught on sale for $16 per pair. So that's $32 for 4 jackstands, $59 for a floor jack... feeling safe under your car while tugging on a long pull handle---Priceless!

I got a set of plastic ramps cause with Zachs ground effects they barely clear. Then once it is Chocked, I get out the jack and jack stands. It's hard to get my fat belly up under there. I'm like Bobby the Jack is always under there as back-up.

Jack stands here also. At work even if you use the tire lifts still have to use the Jack stands also 26,000 single tire lifts.freightliners

I have US Navy airplane chocks to prevent my car from rolling anywhere. I wonder what the statistics are for each safety wise?

It's actually a funny story....
We lived in a house in the Jax area that was about 10-12 feet above grade and had a very steep driveway. My neighbor across the street worked at NADEP and brought them home with him for us to chock Bob's fully loaded E250 work van (we were using cement blocks until we could find good rubber ones). I guess he didn't want it crashing into his dining room in the event of brake/trans failure, lol!
